Contextual Inquiry User Research
Design Research for a global manufacturer of healthcare equipment.
Conducted contextual inquiry with 14 User/Experts with a various mobility impairment and 4 physicians, including physician with a mobility impairment. We documented various ways to transfer from a wheelchair to a medical examination table.
This research led to the understanding that the armrest was use in a completely different way than what the designers initially expected. Additionally it was instrumental in the creation of new accessibility standards for healthcare facilities by the US access board.
